Peru’s future teachers bring classroom questions into research training
Student teachers and teacher educators met in Moquegua in September to examine how research can help them understand classroom problems. UNESCO’s account, published on 1 October and updated the next day, describes an exchange across five southern Peruvian regions.
The meeting was organised by the Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera public teacher-education institution. Participants shared research and innovation experiences; the Reimagina programme also presented its principal 2025 results in participating schools.
A session on developing and validating quantitative and qualitative instruments connected research methods with teaching practice. The way a questionnaire frames a question, or an observation records a change, influences the evidence used to assess pupils’ needs.
The account was published ahead of World Teachers’ Day on 5 October. This year marks 60 years since the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which addresses initial preparation and professional development.
For those preparing to teach, the exchange creates opportunities to compare approaches. Its lasting value will depend on whether participants bring better questions and more reliable evidence into everyday classroom decisions.
