A premium hardware shootout comparing Roborock, Dreame, and Ecovacs. Testing their path planning algorithms, dToF LiDAR efficiency, and engineering solutions to hair tangles.

Quick Verdict
A premium hardware shootout comparing Roborock, Dreame, and Ecovacs. Testing their path planning algorithms, dToF LiDAR efficiency, and engineering solutions to hair tangles.
To understand the core hardware gap among premium robot vacuums, we pitted the latest flagships from Roborock, Dreame, and Ecovacs against each other. In navigation, all three utilize high-precision dToF LiDAR sensors, but their software algorithms show slight differences when reconstructing paths in multi-story layouts or dynamic environments. Roborock excels in meticulous dead-end coverage using its refined grid pathing, while Dreame takes an aggressive approach with its edge-extended algorithms. Addressing the industry’s biggest pain point—hair tangling—Ecovacs and Dreame introduced specialized cone-shaped anti-tangle rollers and active cutting blades. Tests with extensive long hair showed near-zero tangles around the main brush bearings, greatly reducing manual maintenance.
